To: MX-List@MadGoat.com From: "VMS" Reply-To: MX-List@MadGoat.com MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit I have a VMS 7.3 server behind a firewall. This server is not the regular mail server of my company but it does receive some mail and is supposed to send mail too. The name of this server is vms.sd35.bc.ca belonging to domain sd35.bc.ca. This vms server receives all internet mail OK. The server also sends internet mail to all destinations other than to *.sd35.bc.ca OK. That is the problem. I do not know how to make it send mail to anyone@sd35.bc.ca where sd35.bc.ca is another mail server. It also does not send mail to anyone@sub.sd35.bc.ca which is yet another mail server. It sends mail ok to anyone@hotmail.com, anyone@xyz.com, anyone@anywhere.whatever except to anyone@sd35.bc.ca & anyone@*.sd35.bc.ca. So I created an mx as $set mx sd35.bc.ca /gate=mailgate /pref=1 where mailgate is the VMS's gateway. I use this same gateway to configure other non-vms based mail servers with no problem. After I set this mx, mail still does not go to sd35.bc.ca domains. No matter what I do the error in the bounce back message is always: %TCPIP-E-SMTP_UNREACHABL, cannot connect to remote host, sub.sd35.bc.ca -SYSTEM-F-UNREACHABLE, remote node is not currently reachable I feel it does not even read the mx records or mx is not working properly. Usually when I send mail I address it to anyone@anywhere.com and it goes fine, but even if i enclose the address in smtp%"anyone@anywhere.com", it still goes fine. But when I say mx%"anyone@anywhere.com" I always get the error: %MAIL-E-ERRACTRNS, error activating transport MX %LIB-E-ACTIMAGE, error activating image ALPHA$DRA0:[SYS0.SYSCOMMON.][SYSLIB]MX_M AILSHR.EXE; -RMS-E-FNF, file not found I don't know what else to do. Please help. Thanks very much. Cheryl School District #35, BC, Canada
