Hotmail treats as Junk mail any message when the To: header does not match the recipient's address. We have over 4,000 students using Hotmail and getting them all to create the appropriate filter for Hotmail is a big task. I think that adjusting the To: header would work. Any ideas? MX generates just one actual e-mail message to a mailing list, rather than a separate message for each recipient. This is pretty standard behavior for Internet mailing lists. It's a little surprising to hear that Hotmail automatically treats such messages a junk mail, although I guess that since that service is targeted at general-public consumers (who aren't likely to receive mailing list mail unless they explicitly request to do so), perhaps it's not that surprising after all. -Matt -----Original Message----- From: Porter, Allen [mailto:ahporter@montana.edu] Sent: Wednesday, September 07, 2005 5:04 PM To: mx-list@madgoat.com Subject: Hotmail and To: Headers Is there any way to tell MX to use an address from a mailing list instead of the list's name in the To: header? Date: Thu, 8 Sep 2005 14:15:24 -0600 Message-ID: From: "Porter, Allen" Reply-To: MX-List@MadGoat.com To: Matt, Thanks for the quick response. I had forgotten about multiple recipients, which actually we have had to set down to 100 for Hotmail. Hotmail's treatment of list messages is simply Neanderthal -- they are the only provider with whom we have problems. Here is their statement under Options: "Messages from some mailing lists arrive at your account with a 'To:' address that isn't your e-mail address, and as a result are likely to be filtered to your Junk E-Mail folder. Most often the 'To:' address is the mailing list's address." Likely? 100% likely. Unfortunately Hotmail is the personal email of choice for students, over 4,000 of our 12,500. We'll keep trying to teach them to create the appropriate filter. While I have you on line, I have a quick question -- is there any "hidden" or otherwise option to selectively deny or allow REVIEW access to a single member? We have lists that we use ACCESS entries to allow posting, but we don't want them to be able to review the list. We must however, allow actual members of the list to review. So I am looking for a NOREVIEW that is an analog for NOPOST, NOMAIL, etc. Thanks! Allen ------------- Allen, Unfortunately, no.
