Try $ DEFINE/SYSTEM/EXEC MX_SMTP_SERVER_PAGE_FILE 40960 before you restart the SMTP server; that should double the normal pagefile quota for the process. Hopefully, that will be enough. You should also add that logical name definition to your system startup procedure (before the invocation of MX_STARTUP.COM). -Matt -- Matthew Madison | MadGoat Software | PO Box 556, Santa Cruz, CA 95061 USA madison@madgoat.com http://www.madgoat.com ================================================================================ Archive-Date: Mon, 15 Jun 1998 09:36:22 -0700 From: "Patrick Cox" To: mx-list@madgoat.com Date: Mon, 15 Jun 1998 13:35:17 AST Subject: SMTP server and virtual memory problems Reply-To: MX-List@MadGoat.com Message-ID: Hodwy! I can't turn on anti-relay on MX, due to people autoforwarding to off site. What I would like to try to do is to capture or reroute any mail that come from the sendmail server to a single address. The From: address won't be the sendmail server domain so I can't use rewrite rules. Our domain is nsac.ns.ca. We have a number of novell servers for which MX is the in/out mail gateway. So a mail message from dave@aol.com goes to mike@cox.nsac.ns.ca on a novell server where it gets autoforwarded to mike@london.ac.uk. To the smtp delivery agent it looks like relay (aol to london) so it gets rejected. The delivery agent doesn't seem to recognize the Resent-by: or the original To: (which contain nsac.ns.ca). I have added the Resent-To: site to the local_domain list this has worked for a couple domains but has caused a relay rejection on others. I'll have to toy with it. Patrick M. I run a SITE_DELIVER procedure with MX 4.2 that looks at the source and destination addresses as well as the received headers if necesary to prevent relayed messages. Adds some message logging too. I can send you a copy if you are interested. Someone recently also mentioned they had patched the smtp server images so they would reject any message not for some fixed local domain. Does anybody have any ideals of > what is going on and what I can do to correct it? I use to get this error with MX042. It would occur when the SMTP Server process would die. It would seem that a piece of badly formatted spam would cause the process to crash. You could restart the process and it might die again a little later if the message was resent. What we did was to have a program running that would restart MX every half hour. $!
