Gopher listings
Thousands of Gopher servers exist throughout the world and are all
accesible using Netscape and the Internet. A rich and varied set of
interesting facts, useful programs, graphics and information can
be retrieved by connecting
to Gopher servers. Gopher listings are not as richly formatted as most
Web pages, but they do provide a simple and effective method
of finding information.
This is a sample listing of the home Gopher server at Minnesota:

How to get your information into Gopher
Reporting Problems or Feedback
There are several distinct types of Gopher resources.
- Text Files
- When you click on a link to a text file it will be displayed
within Netscape for you to read, save or print.
- Images
- Images can be viewed directly within Netscape by clicking on the link.
In particular there are many fine up-to-the-minute weather maps available
on some Gopher servers.
- Menus
- Menus allow you to navigate to other menus or to any other gopher resource.
Menus are presented as a list of links, each is preceeded by a small
icon indicating the type of resource to which it links.
- Indexes
- Index links allow you to enter a search string that is sent to the Gopher
server to find information specific to the string that you entered. For instance,
entering "Godzilla" for a search string might list all the famous Godzilla movies
if the Gopher index contained information about movies.
- Movie files
- Some very short digital movies are available on Gopher servers. Movies
can be downloaded by Netscape so that they can be viewed by an MPEG
movie player if you have one.
