Microsoft® Windows NT®
Workstation 4.0 comes with Microsoft Internet Explorer,
and includes client support for PPTP and WINS and DNS integration.
Below is information about the Internet components of
Windows NT Workstation.
KEY INTERNET COMPONENTS:
- CLIENT SUPPORT FOR PPTP
The Point-to-Point Tunneling
Protocol (PPTP) provides a way to use public data networks such as the
Internet to create virtual private networks that connect client PCs with
servers. This technology extends the Dial-Up Networking capability by
enabling remote access and securely extending private networks across
the Internet without requiring a change to the client software.
- MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER
Microsoft recommends that
users of Windows NT Workstation download
the latest version of Internet Explorer to get the most advanced
browsing and Web integration capabilities. Windows NT Workstation
4.0 also provides client support for PPTP and WINS and DNS integration.
This allows you to take full advantage of the Internet.
- WINS AND DNS INTEGRATION
Windows NT Workstation 4.0
takes advantage of the integration between two Windows NT
Server services--Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) and domain name
system (DNS)--to provide a form of dynamic DNS that exploits the best
features of both. With WINS and DNS integration, users can enter DNS
fully qualified domain names, making it easier to connect to network
resources.
