Automatic Windows NT Setup Deployment Guide

This guide supplements the tools and information in the Windows NT® Workstation 4.0 Resource Kit, specifically the Automating Installation Step in the Deployment Section. The guide is a compilation of the best practices, including tips and tricks used by Microsoft engineers, consultants, and customers to automate Windows NT 4.0 setup in actual corporate environments.

Because this guide automates Windows NT 4.0 setup, it can help you take advantage of the Zero Administration Kit for Windows NT Workstation 4.0. The Zero Administration Kit is a tool designed to supplement existing Windows NT 4.0 technologies to allow for simplified implementation of secure, policy-based management of Windows NT Workstation-based environments.

Contents of the Automating Windows NT Setup Deployment Guide include:

  • Getting Started
  • The Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Setup Script (UNATTEND.TXT) File
  • Configuring Machine-Specific Information
  • Application Pre-Installation (SYSDIFF.EXE)
  • Customizing Windows NT
