Read Me First

This update will eliminate the "DOS Device in Path Name" security vulnerability found in Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition. With this update, you can help prevent a malicious user from causing your computer to crash by accessing a file or folder whose path contained certain reserved words.

This update applies to all versions of Windows 98, including Windows 98 Second Edition.

How to use
Please restart your computer to complete installation.


How to uninstall
NOTE: Please save your work and close all open applications before attempting to uninstall this component. You will need to have your original Windows CD available to uninstall this component.

  1. Click Start, point to Find, and click Files or Folders.
  2. Search for 256015UN.INF.
  3. Once this file is displayed, right-click on the file and choose Install.
