Scan images

Windows Me includes a special technology, Windows Image Acquisition (WIA), that makes it easy to scan images and download them onto your computer. If you have a WIA-enabled scanner with a USB connection, you're ready to go. Check your documentation to see whether your scanner is WIA-enabled, then:

1. Connect your WIA-enabled scanner to your computer by using the USB cable. Windows Me will automatically recognize your scanner.
2. Place the image that you want to scan face down on the scanner.
3. Click the My Computer icon on your computer desktop, and then click the icon representing your scanner. (You can also access your scanner by clicking Get pictures from a scanner or camera in the My Pictures folder.)
4. When the Scanner and Camera Wizard launches, click Next.
5. Your scanner will create a preview image, and then the Wizard will display the preview image surrounded by dotted lines. The lines surround the area that will be scanned. Drag the lines to change the size of the area to be scanned (for example, if you want to crop the picture).
6. Adjust the image quality by selecting the image type or by clicking Adjusting the quality of the scanned picture, and then click Next.
7. Type the name of the picture, choose the file format, and then click Finish.
