The DCL command:

  $ CHECKSUM file

will place a primitive checksum of the file in the symbol CHECKSUM$CHEKSUM.
Optional qualifiers:

  /OUTPUT=filename  : redirects output (only usefull with /IMAGE)
  /FILE             : (nothing)
  /IMAGE            : perform checksum on individual image-sections
                      in EXE-file and write result to output
