NEW APPLICATION SUPPORT, EASE OF USE HIGHLIGHT ENHANCED DIGITAL FX!32 SOFTWARE

MAYNARD, Mass., October 1, 1997 – A new, updated version of the DIGITAL FX!32 binary translation software with Office 97 and Visual Basic 5.0 support was announced today by Digital Equipment Corporation. The enhanced DIGITAL FX!32 Version 1.2, which runs under the Windows NT 4.0 operating system, can be obtained free of charge starting at the end of this month.

Increased Compatibility, Easier Installation

The latest version of DIGITAL FX!32 software features improved ease of use and reliability of x86 applications. The installation process has been simplified, most notably with an unattended installation option and a single .EXE kit. Digital has also extended DIGITAL FX!32 compatibility to encompass new x86 applications. Version 1.2 now provides Alpha system users access to Visual Basic 5.0 controls and the entire Office 97 suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Photo Editor, and Binder. The new software also offers improved open database connectivity (ODBC) interaction and provides ISAPI Internet services support for Web publishing applications.

"DIGITAL FX!32 continues to maintain Alpha compatibility with the newest versions of Microsoft’s most popular productivity software," said Rand Curry, DIGITAL FX!32 product manager for Digital Semiconductor, a Digital Equipment Corporation business. "With easier installation, Alpha users can get maximum performance of 32-bit Windows applications quickly and, best of all, transparently."
