VAXstation 4000 Workstations

Low-cost workstation power for 2D and 3D graphics

You want a graphics workstation that's easy to install, manage, and use. You want performance that won't quit, and graphics that excel. You don't want to break the bank, or the tradition. You want to continue doing business with a vendor you've trusted for years. So take a look at the new Model 96 graphics workstation -- now.

If you want it all and you want it now, you won't find a better value than Digital's VAXstation 4000 family of workstations. These OpenVMS VAX desktop systems are ideal for technical and commercial markets such as office automation, factory automation, and desktop publishing, as well as MCAD, ECAD, and CASE engineering, visualization, animation, imaging, and simulation applications.

A Networking Application Support (NAS) 150 License gives you high performance access to a host of software for DECnet, TCP/IP Client, OpenVMS Cluster Client software, DECwindows/Motif, DECmessageQ, and ObjectBroker. And, the OpenVMS operating system with its world-class proven technology supports thousands of commercial and technical applications. It's the ideal platform for integrating all your hardware and software, and your stepping stone to 64-bit computing.

Highlights

Whether you choose the top-of-the-line Model 96 or the entry-level Model 60, you'll get a price/performance ratio that puts VAX computing on a par with RISC computing. Plus a three-year warranty with next-day response: the best warranty in the business!

A choice of models and configurations

Based on 10ns NVAX chip design, the VAXstation 4000 Model 96 is 20 percent faster than its predecessor, the Model 90A, offering huge workstation performance at a very affordable price to handle all your compute intensive applications with ease. The Model 96 also offers up to 14.7 GB of industry-standard SCSI storage and StorageWorks expansion, and 128 MB of memory.

Accelerated 2D (LCSPX) and 8-plane, 3D graphics with 16-bit Z-buffer (SPXg) provides hardware acceleration for 2D and 3D vectors and solid fill. And accelerated 24-plane, 3D graphics with 24-bit Z-buffer (SPXgt) boosts performance for smooth-shaded graphics and true-color imaging to extend your workstation power.

When you decide to upgrade, all you have to do is trade in your old system (VS3100/ VS4000/VLC) or your CPU (VS4000-60/90/90A) to enjoy more power and more performance.

Offering a low-cost entry into the world of VAX graphic workstations, the VAXstation 4000 Model 60 delivers big results for a small price. The Model 60 offers attractive performance with up to 104 MB of memory and 14.7 GB of affordable SCSI storage, enabling connections to industry-standard disks, tapes, peripherals.

High-performance 2D graphics, included at no extra cost, yields higher overall system throughput by offloading the CPU. By providing unique dual- and quad-screen monitor capabilities, the Model 60 supports 4-plane grayscale and 8-plane color, all at 1280 x 1024 resolution.

Both models offer compatibility with your present and future software applications, protecting your technology investments.
