Test Description and Results

Results for these systems were obtained using Lotus Development Corporation’s NotesBench benchmarking tool. KMDS Technical Associates conducted and verified the audits. The Lotus defined benchmarks provide a standard method to determine Notes user loads on a server configuration and to establish the maximum number of users that each server can support. The following graph shows the audited test results:

The maximum number of users supported by a system is determined by the average response time to the client system. While the test rules defined by Lotus allow for a maximum average response time of five seconds, DIGITAL chooses to use a higher standard than the industry to determine a successful test by setting the cutoff criteria to an average response time of less than one-second. Results for the systems tested are presented on the next page. A comparison of other vendor systems using the Lotus -supplied test software shows a clear lead for DIGITAL in number of users supported by processor and performance.

Test Configurations

The systems were configured with Windows NT V4.0 SP3 and Mail Only Users Domino versions 4.52B and 4.53. All components of the Lotus Domino server were installed and NTFS partitions were used. Disks were hardware striped to allow for the number of disks used. Disks were also configured using multi-channel Mylex controllers (SWXCRs) with four megabytes of cache memory. Consult with a DIGITAL Sales Support representative to find the best system configuration to meet your needs.
