Thanks to all those who responded to my original question regarding problems
with adding memory to a 3000-300. I have summarized the responses. In my case
it seems to be the Samsung memory incompatibility which requires an upgrade to
firmware ie cpu board replacement. If you plan to buy new memory I would advise
this is checked beforehand to avoid wasting time.
My memory is set up as follows
Slot Original Chip set (112Mb) Attempted Chip set (160 Mb)
1 32 Mb 32 Mb
2 32 Mb 32 Mb
3 8 Mb 32 Mb
4 8 Mb 32 Mb
5 8 Mb 8 Mb
6 8 Mb 8 Mb
7 8 Mb 8 Mb
8 8 Mb 8 Mb
Total 112 Mb 160 Mb
From the replies I have had so far the important things are
1. Layout (as above ) This I had correct
2. Bad memory Possible, one suggestion is to put new memory into
existing 32 mb slots. I havent done this yet.
3. Bad slots Unlikely, I am using the slots ok at present with 8 Mb
4. Firmware problem I have asked Digital to check on this one. This is
related to Samsung memory not being compatible with
previous firmware revs. I have requested an upgrade to
the cpu board as all above check out ok.
