I havn't had a reply, and DEC tech support havn't solved it yet
either, but I did come up with a workaround. The 3.0B distribution must have
done something funny to the boot blocks. I reloaded 3.0, full installation,
from the old cdrom and things are working again. Or at least it boots past
the point where it used to panic. (Previously I was merely `restore'-ing
dump tapes to partitions on disks that the 3.0B cdrom had destroyed). Now to
restore the backup and burn the 3.0B cdrom.
