Hi Managers --
I've just installed this beast, and for the life of me can't get any
sound out of the CD player. Configuration is:
AXP 3000 Model 600
OSF/1 V3.0
RRD43
The CD worked fine for installation. I build 'xcd', set all permissions
on /dev/rrz4c, fire-up the program and watch the track/CD counters
merrily increase. Problem is no sound. I've fiddled with both
volume controls (in 'xcd' and on the RRD43 itself), and still get
no sound out of it.
All of the above holds true for 'xmcd' as well.
In hopes that it was a bad audio-output on the RRD itself, I swapped
the drive with one on another system I have yet to install. Same problem.
I switched the pair of earphones as well. Hell, I even tried different
disks.
While the disk is spinning, if I fiddle with the hardware volume
control, I occassionally get a burst of sound.... but it lasts no
more than a second.
Before I call the on-site Field Service guy, I thought I'd make a
last stab here. I've installed all this several times before, and
never run into this problem. Unfortunately, I don't have the
hardware manual for the drive.
Any help is appreciated,
d.
