My question was:
We are moving a few alpha machines around, and this will require me
to change the address of one of them (DEC 3000/300 with OSF 2.1)
What needs to be changed in order to set up the machine on a different node?
Are there any files that need to be modified?

The following answers were kindly provided:

1. Run setup: /usr/sbin/setup.
And go through all the menu options.

2. Manually modify the following files:

/etc/hosts

/etc/rc.config (Change HOSTNAME and IFCONFIG_0)
Note: Use /usr/sbin/rcmgr to modify the IFCONFIG values.
eg : /usr/sbin/rcmgr set IFCONFIG_0 <the new IP address>

/etc/routes

3. Change also the address and name on the NIS server.
4. Also: Remember to dismount all disks exported from this machine on other
machines in your network (You may have problems doing this, lsof may
help you in tracking down processes using the mounted
partitions).
