Sorry for the delay in summarizing but I got information plus one
that led me to chase down another problem regarding J300 & DEC 3000/300s.
My original question had to do with how to go about configuring a
DEC 3000/300 kernel to work with a Sound and Motion J300 board. Everyone
said to get the MME kit (Multimedia Services for DEC OSF/1 AXP) off of the
layered products cd. Thanks, I located V1.3 but one response stated that
V1.4 is available on the December 1994(?) layered product cd. (I'll save
the money and time and use V1.3). The cd also contains the necessary
documentation (text & ps) to install the software. Unfortunately you do
need a PAK to use this software, but I'm with a university so no problem.
(Our system didn't come with the PAK, probably because we got it on a
trade-in.)
One of the responses indicated that you couldn't use the J300
with a DEC 3000/300. I then switch my queries to another group, the J300
mailing list. It turns out, that the people from the DEC multimedia
group subscribes to this mailing list and they gave me a description of
the problem.
Briefly, the DEC 3000/300s, (300, 300X & 300LX only), will hang or
panic if you are using the J300 for both audio and video simultaneously.
Rebooting is necesssary to clear the hang. However, there is a workaround
and a permanent hardware fix.
The workaround is to use the J300 for video only and use the
built-in audio on the model 300 for the speakers/mic.
For hardware fix you have to contact your local DEC sales person.
