HPLJ 4M+ question

Sorry 'bout the loose connection to OSF, but I've used the info. in
the archive to get as far as I can but I'm stumped...

I have an HPLJ4M+ on Ethernet that loads fine via BOOTP and gets
print requests fine via "lpr". It prints Postscript fine,
but _text_ files

print without performing
                         a carriage return
                                           at the end of each line.

I have built the Ron Flax's "laser" filter and tried using it as
both the input and/or output filter to no avail.

I'm running OSF/1 V2.0 on an AXP 3000/600, and the printcap looks like:
