Compiling a file crashes its running executable.

Consider:

'cprog' is executing.
cc -o cprog cprog.c crashes the executing cprog (memory fault).

It looks like OSF/1 v3.05 does some sort of swapping to/from the file a
process was loaded from, but not protecting the file from being
overwritten.

Is there some way I can reconfigure this swap behaviour? I don't mind
swapping from the file system as well as the swap space--it seems like a
good idea to me. But I would prefer that my processes not get trashed when
I recompile their executables.

Thanks for reading, thanks in advance for your help.
