A while back I posted seveal messages of dscriptions of netwok trouble
on a new AlphaStation 200 4/166. Symptoms were:
(1) NFS timeoutes
(2) dropping 1.0-1.4% of ping packtes
(3) receive errors....large number of these (seen from net -i or net -is)
But this was only occuring if the interaction requires crossing a repeater.
Solution: DEC swapped out my TULIP ethernet card. Now things are much
improved (I am still getting some send/receive errors....but the frequency
is MUCH lower)...
Apparently this is a problem that some of the DEC engineers have seen
in field tests of the "TULIP" or "TU" series ethernet cards.
