Public Disk Space (summary)

A big THANKS to everyone who responded to my question about setting up a
"public disk":

Selden E Ball Jr.
Doug Berry
Andrew Gallatin
Drew Kramer
Dr. Tom Blinn
Alan Rollow (Dr. File System's Home for Wayward Inodes)
Jean-Francois Vibert
Dale Cook
Kent Adams
Andrew Lloyd
David Bannon

Summary of Reponses:

A. Have them use the existing /var/tmp (this could cause a problem if I
use a filesystem that needs space available for logging purposes.)

B. Attach /tmp to a large disk. It's world readable and writable.
Also, all files are removed on a reboot.

C. Set up an anonymous FTP.

D. Set up a /usr/users/scratch directory with protection of 777 a+rwx

E. Set up a public area just like /tmp and set the "sticky" bit on the
directory. (It was noted that quotas can be set on this directory; I
would also have to have some mechanism for removing files.) This too
could cause a problem if the filesystem runs out of logging space.

F. Split the /dev/rz3 drive into a 'g' and 'h' partition.

We'll probably wind up splitting /dev/rz3 into a 'g' and 'h' partition.
Thank you to Dr. Thomas Blinn for nifty directions!!! I'll let everyone
know how it goes
