Dear alpha-osf-managers

I asked:

> - should be able to use user-defined installation scripts

> - should be an interactive program
> - should preferably run on different platforms

I promptly received 5 answers. Many thanks to:

        Herve DEMARTHE (CEA France)
        anthony.baxter_at_aaii.oz.au
Dr. Tom Blinn, UNIX Software Group, Digital Equipment Corporation
Mike Vihel, New Mexico State University
        haymanR_at_icefog.uacn.alaska.edu

The consensus of the answers were that I should use 'setld' and look into
'Programming Support Tools' for documentation. If I want to port the
'setld'-scripts to other platforms, Digital would possibly be willing to
license it to me for that purpose.

The other suggestions included RIS (Remote Installation Service) and
remote-install, which is a utility under FullSail.

Regarding remote-install it is a question whether or not Digital considers
the utility as a product in itself. Maybe someone from Digital can clear up that
question.

I have not yet decided on the best way to accomplish the task, but I will be
looking into the specifics of the tools before making a choice.

Regards
