Last year we bought a pair of Sables, each with a DEFEA board (the EISA
FDDI interface). First of all, I notice that there seems to be some name
overloading: The boot-time message calls the device "fta0", whereas the
fta(7) manpage tells me that "fta" is the name for the DEFTA board (the
TURBOchannel FDDI adapter). This being the case, does everything that's
documented in that manpage apply equally to a DEFEA?
The more important question is, how do we enable communication over our
FDDI connection? I presume that one uses some combination of "ifconfig"
and/or "fddi_config". However, there isn't any manpage for "fddi_config",
even though the fta(7) manpage refers me to the fddi_config(1) manpage.
So if someone could provide either a pointer to where I should be looking,
and/or the information itself, I'd be muchly appreciative. Thus far, it
hasn't been a high-priority item, since we haven't had any applications
requiring high bandwidth between the two systems. But it occurred to me
that it would be wise to know how one does it well in advance of actually
needing it!
(What we want to do, of course, is set things up so that all communication
between the Sables goes via the FDDI connection, rather than the standard
ethernet which they share with all of our other systems.)
Many TIA ...
