     Hi,

Does anybody know anybody in Digital Engineering that can
confirm this improvement in performance (ie the people who
     develop OSF).

     Thanks for this.

I haven't forgotten the documentation you requested and I
will mail this to you shortly. OK ?

Incidentally, do you take support queries via internet ?

Richard,

You asked about speed of OSF/1, I have attached some comments made by
customers.

Andy

Original Question:
==================
Is it my imagination, or 3.2 much faster than 3.0?
                             -----------
Answer:

Most folks believe it to be true. I didn't prove it, however.
I did some minor timing tests, but the results were mixed,
and the methodology was questionable...no, it was flakey.
I put the post out hoping that someone who had done serious
timing studies might reply. This didn't happen, and no dec
folks made a peep.

I am sorry I did not reply to all the questions folks asked
me, I just can't catch up.

Compared to OSF/1 V3.0, there is a significant performance improvement
in v3.2.

V3.0 had some significant performance problems, mostly due to the size of
programs and poor default system parameters.
Significant performance improvements can be gained in 3.0 by
making changes to the default vm parameters in /etc/sysconfigtab

There seem to be a lot of improvements in swap performance.
And more to come in 3.4.

I was running OSF/1 1.3 and just moved up to 3.2 this week. I'm not
positive about it either, but I agree that it seems faster!
