Hi,

I was trying to set up a modem on DEC Alpha 3000/300 OSF/1 3.0B, using
the methods discussed in this list. When dialing from a PC, it gets
connected but nothing else happens, no login prompt or anything. What
am I missing? Here's what I did:

. Edit /etc/gettydefs to include line

       dialin# B38400 HUPCL CS8 # B38400 HUPCL CS8 #login: #dialin

. Edit /etc/inittab to include line

       dialin:23:respawn:/usr/sbin/getty -h /dev/tty00 dialin vt100

. Set the modem (Hayes, V.32bis) on a PC and save the settings:

Auto Answer, Hardware Flow Control, 14,400-8-N-1,
       MNP5 and V.42bis compression, Auto-reliable

. Run 'init q' to restart init

. Dial from a PC. It says 'connected'. The RD flashes for a while
and then goes out. No login prompt is displayed.

Thank you.
