How to Restrict the memory used by kernel.

Hi,
   This may seem a funny question, but here goes.

  I would like to restrict (temporarily) the amount of memory used
  by the kernel on bootup to 32 Mbytes. I dimly half remember that
  there was some mention of this on this list a long time ago, but there
  was no mention of it in the archives.
   I would like to do something along the lines of

>>> boot -fl phys_memory=32Mbytes
  or
>>> boot -fl phys_memory=64Mbytes

   The platform is OSF/1 vn 2.1 DEC 3000/400. The reason is simple. I have
  a colleague who wants to buy an alpha. He is a vax person and requires
  convincing that an OS really needs > 32Mbytes of RAM. The aim is to
  run the system in this restricted mode, so that he can test it with an
  increasing amount of RAM without the bother of whipping out SIMMS.

   I can't remember whether this is in the sysadmin guide. I dont think so
  but mine has been borrowed, so I can't tell.

                  Any help appreciated.
                        Andy
