The perl is /usr/local/bin/perl (-> /usr/local/bin/perl5.001) and is the only one

nope ... but then I've been doing most of my perl-ing on a Sparc 5 recently.

This looks promising ... I may had to re-extract & recompile our perl package &
see where it thinks it's doing things ... maybe I've got an environment variable
set (or not set) wrong.  Final summary will follow after I get the new SATAN.
