tip / kermit

hello world

Facts:
======
I have a ZyXel U-1496 on a DEC 2000 Model 300 AXP running osf/1 V2.0 I try to setup tip (kermit), for dial-out and wait then for a dial-back from the other side.

I set up getty like this: (inittab)

tty01:234:respawn:/usr/sbin/getty /dev/tty01 M9600 vt100

To allow a user (ada) to use the tty01 I changed the
/dev/tty01 like this: 755 ada.terminal

Problem:
========
1) the tty01 mode and user.group is always set back
to : cwr--w--w root.terminal

2) I can't dial out either with a) tip or b) kermit

Question:
=========
1) I some one out, which had the same problem fixed.
2) Finally I will set up slip, are there other(better) possibilities instead of tip?

Thanks to all replays, I will give, for sure, a good summary!
