/bin/passwd a pain!

G'Day Fellow OSFers,

Does anybody know if there might be another version of the password
routine for OSF (version 2.1, Enhanced Security) that might be
available? I often make use of the "expect" package to automate
account creation and for pop mail password changes. Expect seems
to go into fairy-land when the password routine spits out this bit:

>Do you want (choose one letter only):
>
> Pronounceable passwords generated for you (g)
> A string of characters generated for you (c)
> A string of letters generated for you (l) ?
> To pick your password (p) ?
>
>
>Enter choice here (q to quit):

I suspect it spawns a subshell or in some other way, dis-associates
itself from the tty device. Whatever the reason, it's a real
pain in the keister!

Anybody got any ideas, or know where to find a better password or
pop-password routine?

Many thanks.
Lyn
