Hello, all. I'll be installing a small 4-processor system in
the next few days and I'd like to find out in advance if anyone
has any tips or hints. I'll be installing OSF/1 version 3.2
(I'm already experienced with alphas and earlier versions of OSF,
but not MP machines or version 3.2). I'm looking for hints like:
--When installing the additional processor boards, be sure
to install the one with the lowest serial number closest
to the machine's motherboard because of "foobar" reason
--Oh yeah--be sure to fire up "foo" on startup as it will
give you better MP performance
--Build a [stripped down] || [fully configured] kernel and the
machine will perform faster
--[Be sure to use] || [Definitely DON'T use] the processor
management tools in OSF
--Have users type the command "go" with an argument of "-fastest"
so they will get the best performance
--Contact company "X" as they have the best compiler to take
advantage of MP
--Be sure you install patch #1234.567 from DEC which fixes the
famous "raboof" bug
--If you use exactly 3.x times the amount of physical memory
you have for swap area, you'll get the best paging performance
...basically, I'm looking for any hints that might not likely be
in the manuals; what other folks with MP systems have learned.
Thanks in advance!
