After reading numerous, around 50 I think, responses this morning, I should
have done a little more thinking. The "fix" is to put the userid to have su
to root capability in the "system" group in the /etc/group file. This I
probably had not done at one time, put it in, it still did not work, since I
had not logged out and back in. I had some pointers to the man page. I
found no references to put the userid into the system group to allow su to
root from that account. I thought I had read through it carefully
yesterday, so I did again this morning. Still no references to the system
group or the /etc/group file. Thanks for all the help.
