filehandle spans mbufs

Environment: OSF 2.1 rev 250, Alpha 3000/300, 64 MB RAM

We're getting occurences of this message:

        May 2 15:24:02 remus vmunix: filehandle spans mbufs

in the last two days... mysterious, and we don't even know where to
begin to look for a problem. netstat -m looks pretty healthy. Is
this a serious problem? An indication of Something Serious about to
happen? Has anyone ever seen this message before? Can it be related
to anything over which we have control?
