Physical errors on a disk

Can someone give me a little bit of advice as to where to look to get
info on fixing a few physically unreadable sectors on a disk.

The system is working perfectly except that on one of the non-system
disks, there are 2 sectors that the system reports as un-readable.

I would like to map these into the drives defect list (yes I know that it
should happen automatically, but in this case I would like to ensure that
it has occured.)

The disk is a recent 2gb (seagate I expect).

I have fixed my file system inconsistancies that this caused (manually
unfortunately, and fsck did not find any errors on the disk, regardless
of:
If we run "ls" from /home, we get the 5 appearing, yet if we
run "ls -la", the response indicates that

./opt not found

This directory does not have an i-node attached to it, and yet fsck does
not even attempt to remove it :-(

Any thoughts?

Regards,
crunch
