We're testing a Alpha with OSF/1 3.2a as a news server. News spool
is configured on top of an Advfs domain, and the size of the fileset
is about 8GB.
Default Advfs can't handle more than 50.000 files. For news this is
way to low. In 3.2 you can raise the metadata exten size with option -x
to addvol and mkfdmns. I raised this to the highest value described
in the Release Notes (which sayes that this value gives me 200.000
files
and more). A test shows me that I can't store more than 800.000 files.
I could probablby raise the metadata exten size even more,
but how would this affect performance?
I need to have more than 2.000.000 files on one fileset. If this
is not possible with Advfs, do DEC have any other options?
I don't want to use UFS over LSM, as it is very cumbersome to add more
disks.
Thanks in advance
