DAT drive fails with SCSI errors

Hi,

I've just noticed that our DDS-1 DAT drive is not playing ball anymore. It
used to work, but now does not. This seems to coincide with the addition of
a new drive to the SCSI chain, so i've removed this and it still hasn't
returned to normality.

The drive is getting old(ish) so it might be a hardware problem, although
there's no indication on the two leds of any problem. I did notice the
drive was set-up as target 7, so edited the kernel config file, changed
the scsi_b prom setting from 6 to 7, changed the tape from 7 to 6,
rebooted, removed the old rmt0h devices and MAKEDEV tz14. Didn't do
any good.

Anyway, the SCSI chain goes

DEC3000 500 External SCSI target 7
SEAGATE ST43400N 0116 target 0
SEAGATE ST43400N 0115 target 5
ARCHIVE Python 28388-XXX 4.28 target 6
TERMINATOR

it did go...

DEC3000 500 External SCSI target 7
SEAGATE ST43400N 0116 target 0
SEAGATE ST43400N 0115 target 5
ARCHIVE Python 28388-XXX 4.28 target 6
BA350 with
  SEAGATE ST15150N target 1
  <DIGITAL(TOSHIBA) CD-ROM with TRAY> target 4
TERMINATOR

but i've removed that. Actually when i rebooted first time after changing
the tape id's a lot of errors came up on boot mentioning CAM and phase a lot
regarding the ST15150N which didn't cheer me up. Anyone know what this means?

The external SCSI bus length is fairly long with the BA350 plugged in, but
since it's a non-FAST bus, i've got up to 6m to play with and i think i'm
around 5m.

It gets boring from here on, the output of uerf and scu show edt - the
uerf errors are as a result of various tar and mt commands.
mt -f /dev/rmt0h offline doesn't seem to work - the physical tape eject
button is required to get the DATs out of the drive.

# uerf -c err -o full
