Questions regarding cpio

I have three questions regarding the use of cpio.

1. I have a directory containing sub-directories that were written to a tape
using the cpio command - how do I get the main directory and its
   subdirectories restored? I tried cpio -i -I/dev/rmt0h "/path to file/*"

2. If I have a saveset on a tape that was written with cpio, how do I
wind the tape to write another saveset at the end of the first saveset?

3. What is the best method of backup - cpio or dump? I know that dump is
faster (originally we used dump). I was told that using dump does a mirror
copy and would result in any fragmentation being copied to the saveset as
opposed to cpio which writes files to tape sequentially. Is this true?
Should I really be using cpio or should I start using dump again?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
