migrating Ultrix disks to AXP

Hello managers,

I'm in the process of putting some disks on an alpha that were formerly
on a DEC 5000 system. I'm NOT interested in saving any of the
information on the disks - I just want to use them as new and repartition them,
etc. However, when I try and run disklabel, I get the following
error:

Bad pack magic number (label is damaged, or pack is unlabeled)

The disks are RZ56, RZ57, and RZ58, and I'm using OSF/1 3.0B on a
couple of AXP 3000 - M300X systems.

One interesting note: If I want to use the whole disk, I can newfs the
"c" partition, no problem. But I'd like to be able to use disklabel
to repartition.

Thanks for any advice,

jorgy
