Hi,
I noticed that someone asked if there is PPP software for
OSF1. I am interested in the same thing. I talked to DEC,
and they said that its not available 'officially', although
they are considering including it in a future release of
OSF1.
I know that the AT&T SVR4 distribution comes with aspppd,
and that Linux has DIP to do this job. What I am looking for
is an intelligent PPP daemon, that automatically dials when
you make access to the remote end of the PPP link when a
TCP/IP application accesses it, and disconnects the link
after a timeout. Its operation would be similar to modern
dial on demand routers that 'ghost' the remote end of the
link to keep the routing tables active, and the TCP/IP
software happy. I believe aspppd does this, while DIP does
not.
Does anybody know of any software that can be easily ported
to OSF1 that will give us this automatic access?
