Has anyone out there seen this!!!
Hi everyone. We have just finished upgrading to Digital Unix v3.2a (last
Thursday). We have been running Pathworks v5.0f for about 6 weeks. Since
the Unix upgrade we have been experiencing periodic disconnects on client
shares. It appears that one or more of the lmx.srv server processes (each
of which controls the connections for up to 8 clients) will "terminate
unexpectedly." The next time one of the affected clients makes a network
request the connection for the share is re-established by way of a different
lmx.srv process. Issueing a net use command shows all untouched shares in a
state of "disconnected". If a dir is done on a share, the share is in the
search path or if the PC tries to access the share for any reason the
disconnected status is cleared from the drive.
If the termination happens while the client is activly using the network, the
PC may experience a moment or two of "drive not available: abort, retry fail"
or "retry, cancel". If the users waits a few seconds (upto a few minutes),
the connection will re-establish itself and the user can continue on.
Occasionally, the application may hang the PC if it requires the share be
present for a function executing during the outage.
The problem is quickly becoming a major annoyance here. We are gathering
core dumps, debug logs and system statistics for the DEC CSC folks in hopes
that someone might figure out what's going on.
Has anyone else solved this sort of problem at their installation. Has anyone
else seen this behavior?
