SUMMARY: What about multi-vendor NIS with C2 security?

Couple of interesting responses on this, thanks to those who replied.

My original query:

Following on from the nice NIS/C2 summary from Chua Koon Teck and Jon
Buchanan, I was wondering if anyone could comment on doing this with
multi-vendor NIS domains?

I'd like to start using C2 within our NIS domain, we have OSF/1, SunOS 4.1.n,
Solaris 2.4 and HP-UX 9.n clients, I really don't know much about C2, is the
prpasswd stuff a standard C2 mechanism? Will it work with a Sun/HP? Where does
Secure NFS fit into this? (I'm not in USA, I'm not sure what the export status
of secure NFS is...)

Any help/comments much appreciated, will summarise etc..

You'll find that every vendor's idea of doing shadow passwords is
completely different - I doubt you'd get them to interoperate without
an absolutely gross amount of hackery.

Hi Simon

One of my NIS client to my DEC NIS master server is a Sparcstation
running Solaris 2.4. I configured it as a NIS client and I think it is
working. Need to further test it out.

Actually I have wanted to use the Sparcstation as a NIS master server,
but I think it is hard to get it to work with the enhance security of OSF1.
Pls keep me inform if you have any solution.

Thank you.

Have a nice day.
