We are exercising our disaster recovery plan on our Alpha 2100 test
machine, and have the following problem.
During boot up, the system panics with the following message:
|...
|bootdevice_parser: Unknown protocol 'RAID'
|setconf: Bootdevice parser failed to translate bootdevice RAID 1 7 0 0 0 0 0.
|
|panic(cpu0): setconf: bootdevice parser failed
This happens both when restoring from another machine's backup, and by a
straight 'Advanced Installation' from the OSF/1 3.2 CDROM. After the
initial file copy, it reboots to this disk to continue installation, but
is not able to boot up.
I copied the vmunix from the old OSF/1 2.1 installation on that machine,
to the boot disk we are now using, and it gets past this point (to panic
looking for a ufs root partition and finding advfs, but that's OK).
Now for the configuration information you're all waiting to know: This
machine is an Alpha 2100 4/200 with a SWXCR RAID controller, set to JBOD
mode (Just a Bunch of Disks). The console firmware is v3.9-89.
The release notes recommend RAID Configuration Utility (RCU) v3.0 or
higher, and an ARC revision of 3.5-27 or higher. How do I get this
information?
Would this be the cause of the booting problem? Can anyone offer other
insights?
Thanks in advance for any help. I will post a summary for the archives.
