My original question:
>I was just wondering how people were liking PolyCenter for dump
>and restore - I've heard gossip that it's much more convenient than
>regular dump and restore. If you've tried it and felt strongly
>negative or positive, please let me know.
And the response:
In general, PolyCenter NSR is liked. Especially if you have a jukebox
to use with it. I got lots of positives on this one.
Those who replied (and some excerpted comments):
Mike Iglesias <iglesias_at_draco.acs.uci.edu>
 ("it looks nice so far")
D. Mark Sprague msprague_at_MIT.EDU
("So far I think it is great!")
Adrian Ho <adrianho_at_nii.ncb.gov.sg>
("We're using it to back up a total of 40+GB on 14 separate machines running
4 operating systems (SunOS, Solaris, OSF/1, AIX) to a single server every
night. With an autoloader, it's pretty much automatic and very reliable.")
Harald Lundberg <hl_at_tekla.fi>
 ("you can't live without it")
Simon Greaves <censjg_at_caledonia.hw.ac.uk>
 ("Definately worth a look")
Sheila Hollenbaugh <shollen_at_valhalla.cs.wright.edu>
("We like it a lot... However if you do not have some kind of a tape jukebox
and have to physically mount and unmount tapes anyhow, it might not be
  worth the trouble.")
Jacy Canute jacy_at_fluid.mro.dec.com
("I've used it to back up over 50 systems UNATTENDED! and it worked fine.")
crispin_at_communica.oz.au (Crispin Harris)
("The package...is highly configurable, and easy to both backup and restore
  with.")
Chris Glenister <crg_at_cranfield.ac.uk>
("The software interface is good and I find it a useful tool to use.
And an important note from Chris Glenister:
>I still perform "dumps" regularly to maintain a full security backup, because
>if your system crashed, you would not be able to restore any NSR backups
>without having first re-installed the Operating System and then installed NSR.
Thanks to all who took the time to reply
