My original query was how to stop the following message panicking the machine
on bootup:

|bootdevice_parser: Unknown protocol 'RAID'
|setconf: Bootdevice parser failed to translate bootdevice RAID 1 7 0 0 0 0 0.

There were several replies. They all gave the following advice:
This is described in the Digital Unix Release Notes V3.2. There is a new
bus_probe_algorithm Environment Variable you have to set to new.
>>> set bus_probe_algorithm new
>>> init
So verify your bootdef_dev Environment Variable and that's all...
It's another case of not seeing what's in front of your eyes. I looked at the
manual when composing my request for help, but stopped reading just short of
the above text. Next time I'll look at the section headings.
