I have since traced the problem to the Bit-3 device driver for their
TC to VME bus converter and the way our application software was mis-
using it due to a bug. It was a combination of specifying the wrong
buffer pointer and a non existent VME address to the driver. Of course
the first thing that happens was the application crashed with a core
dump. But, a few minutes later, all the wierd symptoms started to show
up, as if select parts of system core was wiped out. At other times
when this happend, the system would crash, but again, not immediately.
Well, that problem in the application has been fixed.
It was easy to suspect the newly installed hardware, since it was new.
