Summary: Telnet from Sun to Alpha

Dear colleagues,

My question was: how can my Alpha box accept my Telneting from a Sun
station without complaining that it doesn't know which type of terminal I'm
using?

Of course, as suggested, I could type "set TERM=vt100" or establish an X-
session.

The answer is to add the proper terminfo files (I even received them twice!
This list is just great). To do so:

1) run infocmp on the sun. If you run it from the Shelltool, this will
output the terminfo file corresponding to sun-cmd (which Dec Unix
   doesn't know).
2) transfer this output onto the Alpha box in /usr/lib/terminfo/sun-cmd.ti
3) on the Alpha box: cd /usr/lib/terminfo as root
4) tic sun-cmd.ti

Et voila! No more problems ....
