Hi,
My question was "How can I change my password on the popd server from
within Eudora?". The answer is that you must add "something" on the server.
Here are the somethings.
My deepest thanks to all those who replied (so quickly and so efficiently,
as usual!).

I will send two mail messages with what you need. One will have the
poppassd.c program and the other will be the makefile.
The poppassd.c program had directions on how to implement it as well as a
discussion on security.
I got these from somebody on this list. Originally I tried to use pwserve3
& pwserve4 from the Qualcomm FTP server. However, they didn't work because
of the long message the operating system sends back when the password
doesn't contain either a alpha or digit character. This program handles
that problem.

I have written a daemon which can handle Eudora's Change Password protocol
as document somewhere on the qualcomm ftp server. But it's only tested
Digital's popd delivered with V3.2a. Send me a mail if you want further
details.
PS: Also I would be interested in enhancing my code to support other pop
daemons - and then put the code into public domain.
--> I understand that this is one of the documents available at Qualcomm.
Which one? <--

Yes, you need a pop password server. There is one on the Qualcomm ftp
server that works on OSF1 very well called pwserve-4 or something like
that. The other three do not work. :(
Is it dangerous, well.. yes. It sends passwords in cleartext,
unfortunately, but so does ftp and telnet, unless you are working with
special versions that have been secured.

The password changeing in Eudora is not part of popper. There is
another daemon on the Qualcomm ftp server that handles that. It's
called poppassd. The one I use just calls passwd. The only problem
is that I have to restart inetd after the machine boots. I'm not sure
why.
--> this may deserve some comments from the gurus? <--
