Print jobs interfering with themselves (?)

I have the following setup:

Alpha 3000/300 (Print server), Alpha 3000/400 and Alpha 200 4/233 all
running Digital Unix 3.2

The 3000/300 has a LAT print queue set up to C.itoh line printer hanging
off a DECserver 300 port (characteristics below).

Until recently things have been fine. Since (possibly) an upgrade to
V3.2, we have occasionaly seen a print job interrupting another. ie,
another person's job is inserted in the middle of the currently printing
job. This looks like some kind of contention problem but I can't see what
can be causing it. Is queueing broken in V3.2 or is there some funny with
the lpd system. The problem is not very reproducable and seems to be
independant of the size of the original print job. I have payed with
queueing on the DECserver.

I'd appreciate any ideas. (printcap etc attached below)

Thanks

 Dave...
