Hello OSFers and thanks to you great bucnch of ppl :) It's been nice reading
problems being solved in practically no time etc... anyway, it think it's
my time to turn for help now :-o
Hardware: DECpc axp 150 with OSF/1 3.0, DEC Storageworks expansion box,
TLZ06 external DAT tape drive.
Problem: backup operations fail with tar tape write / I/O error and the
error message below on console log. Symptoms include also
serious slowing down/hanging of the computer before the error messages.
Small operations (writing/extracting below ~20 Mb or so) work fine.
Apparently the problem has something to do with the SCSI bus. Boot-time
self-tests say SCSI is OK. List of SCSI devices:
internal: 2 x RZ28 disks, 1 x 1 Gb disk (can't remember the type but it's a
DEC disk), RRZ42 CD-ROM (SCSI IDs 1,2,0,4)
external: DEC Storageworks 3-slot expansion box with an RZ28 (SCSI id 3),
connected to the main box
TLZ06 tape drive (SCSI id 5), connected via the expansion box
I had the same problem with a TZ85 tape. The problem propably concerns
also the expansion box: tape backups were noticed to fail a couple of
days after the expansion box was added to the system.
Any help appreciated.
And now for the error message:
