DecServer 200 MC boot

Hi Gurus,

We have a VAX 8350 (Ultrix) that is going to die in the near future
due to high maintenance bills. We have also a DEC Alpha 3000-600
(OSF/1 v. 3.0B) and 6 DecServers 200/MC that are presently booted by
the VAX.

We would like to boot the servers by the Alpha box after VAX death,
allowing us to keep using our several VT320/VT340 terminals. One
solution is to buy the boot program again from DEC, an appropriate
version for OSF/1. But we feel we have paid already for that product
and would otherwise try to migrate it to the Alpha machine. After
all it was bought for the purpose to boot those specific servers and
hopefully we are not going to scratch the law.

For this purpose we have copied the boot software (pr0801eng.sys)
into /var/dna and in order to boot the servers with /usr/sbin/load,
we first tried /usr/sbin/addnode (see addnode man page) with several
variations over

/usr/sbin/addnode alpha -h xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx -N serv4 \
                                -l /var/dna/pr0801eng.sys -c QNA-0

like changing QNA into UBA, omiting the -c key completely, etc., but
addnode refuses to work, generating core. Has anyone an idea of how
this can be accomplished? Or should we give up?

TIA,
