Hi,
One of our our DEC3300s that has recently had a new operating system
installed (digital unix 3.2) suddenly fails to successfully run Xdec
with xdm. When xdm is started (either via the startup script or
manually) initially all the correct processes are there (xdm, and the
spawned Xdec). However, the screen sits blank for 1-2 min, then
the X kicks in, only to immediately die. xdm logfiles occasionally
have lines like:
error (pid 1136): error (pid 1131):
Unknown session exit code 2816 from process 1136
where pid 1136 is the Xdec. After the Xdec crash, xdm process
continues to run.
Xdec can be started without xdm by hand, but again takes a long time
to startup, and dies as soon as you try to use it.
Everything was working fine (and startup times were reasonably fast)
for some time after the new OS installation. The only things that
have changed, that I can think of, is the installation of the
multimedia and DECtalk software.
Basically I was wondering if anyone recognised these symptoms and
knew of the cause (and solution?). I would also be interested in
methods of getting Xdec to produce more detailed log files than what
the "-errorFile" option yields.
Any pointers will be much appreciated.
thanks,
Andrew
